Workshop on Network Security and Cyber Threats with a Focus on Firewalls

A workshop on “Network Security and Cyber Threats with a Focus on Firewalls” was conducted by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering on 30th March 2026. The session aimed to create awareness among students about securing networks and understanding modern cyber threats. The resource person for the session was Mr. Rajavarapu Manoj Kumar, Security Consultant – SIEM at Microland, Bengaluru.

During the session, the speaker explained various cyber threats such as malware, phishing, ransomware, and denial-of-service attacks. Real-world examples were shared to demonstrate the impact of these threats on individuals as well as organisations. The speaker also emphasised the importance of firewalls in protecting systems from unauthorised access and ensuring network security.

Different types of firewalls and their working mechanisms were explained in a simple and clear manner. The session further covered how firewalls filter network traffic based on predefined security rules. Practical scenarios were discussed to help students gain a better understanding of firewall implementation and network protection strategies.

Interactive discussions throughout the workshop encouraged active participation, with students asking questions and clarifying their doubts. Case studies further enhanced understanding by connecting theoretical concepts with real-world applications. Overall, the workshop was highly informative and beneficial, receiving positive feedback from the participants.
