Expert talk on Data Analytics Essentials: From Raw Data to Real Insights
On 22 April 2026, the Department of CSE hosted an expert talk titled “Data Analytics Essentials: From Raw Data to Real Insights” by Shankar Gouda, Lead Data Scientist and Trainer at Innomatics Research Lab. The session aimed to build a strong foundation in data analytics among students.
The speaker explained the complete journey of transforming raw data into meaningful insights. He highlighted that raw data gains value only when it is processed into actionable information. Using a real-time dataset from a food services application, he demonstrated the end-to-end analytics process. Students were shown how unprocessed data can be converted into business-relevant narratives.
The talk emphasised that data tells a story that needs to be carefully interpreted. Mr Gouda encouraged students to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies within datasets. He also demonstrated how different types of graphs reveal unique insights. The importance of selecting appropriate visualisations based on analytical questions was clearly explained.
The session emphasised multidimensional thinking and the importance of questioning and validating data before drawing conclusions. Overall, the talk enhanced students’ understanding of data analytics concepts and improved their analytical and decision-making skills.
