Dr. Clara Kanmani, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized an Extension programme titled ‘Cyber Security Awareness’ for the students of HAL New Public School on 05-Feb-2020. Around 75 students and 5 teachers participated and got benefited. This programme was conducted in association with Government of Karnataka, Cyber Security Centre of Excellence – Indian Institute of Science and Department of IT-BT, Karnataka.

The session started with an introduction to internet and cyber security importance in today’s world. Various kinds of cybercrime such as identity theft, psychological tricks, phishing, mobile application frauds to name a few were discussed in the session with real life examples and videos. Later awareness about the usage of social media like Facebook and WhatsApp was dealt in detail. The students were more curious to know about the topic and felt it as an interesting one. The general tips for not becoming the victim of cybercrime were also discussed.
