Workshop on Building a Cross-Platform Social Media App with React Native
A workshop titled “Building a Cross-Platform Social Media App with React Native” was organised by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering on 06th April 2026 in CSE Lab-2. The session was delivered by Mr. Muralitharan G, Senior Technical Lead at Emids Technologies, Bengaluru. It was attended by interested sixth-semester students from all five sections.
The workshop aimed to provide practical knowledge of developing cross-platform mobile applications using React Native. The session began with an introduction to the fundamentals, features, and advantages of React Native. Key concepts such as component-based UI design, navigation, and state management were clearly explained to the participants.
The hands-on session included the installation of Node.js, Expo, and integration with Firebase. Students actively developed interactive UI components and implemented features such as real-time data handling and user authentication. A live demonstration guided participants in building a basic social media application featuring posts, likes, and comments.
The session also highlighted best practices in UI/UX design and performance optimisation. Interactive discussions, coding exercises, and debugging sessions further enhanced student engagement and learning outcomes.
Overall, the workshop was informative, interactive, and motivating, encouraging students to explore opportunities in mobile application development and pursue innovative projects in the field.
